HOW DO YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEN’S AND WOMEN’S RINGS?

If you’re shopping for a ring, you might wonder how to tell the difference between men’s and women’s rings.  While there is no definitive rule, some general guidelines can help you.

Men’s rings are typically wider, thicker, and heavier than women’s. They also tend to have simpler designs and fewer embellishments.

Women’s rings are usually narrower, thinner, and lighter than men’s. They often have more intricate patterns and more gemstones or diamonds. Of course, these are not hard and fast rules, and you should always choose a ring that suits your style and preference.

ARE RING SIZES THE SAME FOR MEN AND WOMEN?

Ring sizes are based on the diameter of your finger, which can vary depending on your gender, age, weight, and more. (Even temperature can influence your ring size.)

Generally speaking, women tend to have smaller fingers than men, so they usually wear smaller ring sizes. However, this is not a universal rule; some women may have larger fingers, and some men have smaller ones.

Although general guidelines can help you, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to finding the perfect ring size.

What is the average ring size for females?

For women, the average ring size is between a size 5 and a size 7. This range varies depending on the finger, the band’s width, and the ring’s style.

What is the average ring size for men?

The average ring size for men is between 8 and 11, with the most common size being 10. But, men’s ring sizes can range from 7 to 15, depending on the size of their fingers.

COMMON MISTAKES WHEN CHOOSING A RING SIZE

Using inaccurate methods

Some finger measurement methods are rather inaccurate and unreliable, such as using a string, a paper strip, or a ring size chart. These methods can stretch, bend, or tear, affecting the measurement.

Use a plastic or metal ring sizer for an accurate measurement. You can buy a ring sizer online or at a craft store.

Measuring your finger at the wrong time

Our fingers change size throughout the day and depending on the temperature. So, don’t measure your finger when it’s too hot or too cold, as this can make it swell or shrink. Instead, measure your finger at the end of the day and when it’s a more average temperature.

Not considering width

The width of the ring can affect how comfortable it is to wear. If you choose a wide ring, you may need to go up a size or two to ensure it fits comfortably on your finger.

TIPS FOR THE BEST WAY TO MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE?

  • The best way to get an accurate measurement is to visit a jeweler.
  • Measure the finger you want to wear the ring on – different fingers (even the same finger, on the other hand) are different sizes.

If you’re estimating the ring size, it’s better to guess slightly smaller than bigger.

  • Similarly, choose the larger size for a more comfortable fit if you are between sizes.
  • Choose a size that is a bit bigger, allowing your finger to swell but not so much that the ring is too loose when the swelling subsides. It could fall off.
  • Some people also prefer to wear their rings a quarter size larger, as it feels claustrophobic and uncomfortable when it is tight.

HOW DO YOU FIND OUT YOUR PARTNER’S RING SIZE WITHOUT THEM KNOWING?

If you’re looking to surprise your partner with a ring, the last thing you want to do is ask them for their size. Fortunately, there are a few ways to find out their ring size without them knowing.

  • Look for a ring that they already own and measure its size.
  • Ask a friend or family member if they know their ring size.
  • Borrow one of their rings and take it to a jeweler to “get it cleaned”.
  • Send us a picture of their hand (showing the finger you want to buy the ring for)–years of experience developed a good eye.

RULE OF THE RINGS

Remember that these are just general guidelines and that everyone’s fingers differ. If you’re unsure, contact a jeweler to have it measured accurately.

Also, if you get the size slightly wrong, it is always possible to resize it.
